THE ART OF BANKSY / ANTWERP, BELGIUM

We took a leisure trip to Europe a week back and came across an art curation by the infamous Banksy in Antwerp, "The Art of Banksy" which was curated by Steve Lazarides. The epic showcase featured some of the masked artist's most notable pieces of art. The artist's fans and simple bystanders flocked to view rare pieces of the inconspicuous artist's work.

"Bringing the historic streets of London to the steps of Antwerp, the exhibition will take visitors on a sort of journey, exploring the questionable genius of the world’s most infamous street artist with a retrospective of over 80 of the artists’ off-street masterpieces.
Most famously known for his stencilling technique, Banksy’s artwork combines dark humour with underlying political messages and social themes, which have made him one of the biggest contemporary artists of our time.

More than eighty works by the controversial artist will be shown in high-tech display installations in The Art of Banksy. The works come from Lazarides’s own collection and other private collectors. The Art of Banksy explores the enduring relevance of Banksy’s work outside its original context and provides considerable food for thought.

Curated by the artists’ former manager, Steve Lazarides, the exhibition presents the largest collection of Banksy artworks to reach Antwerp.

From January 14 until March 19 the Shopping Stadsfeestzaal will fall under Banksy’s spell. The work of the world’s most famous – or most notorious – street art artist has been brought together by the artists’ former manager Steve Lazaridis. Alongside other well-known Banksy works, Lazarides has selected a couple of the artist’s most talked about and topical artworks, including the iconic ‘Girl with Balloon’, ‘Kate Moss’ and ‘Media’. ‘We are also showing a selection of photos that place the work in the right context,’ says Lazarides. ‘I took them myself during the collaboration with Banksy and they have never been shown before.’
All pieces included in The Art of Banksy exhibition are original works and limited edition screenprints by Banksy himself, which are all unique in their form.

“This exhibition is a one off – never will you be able to see this amount of work in one place again. Once the show is over, the artwork will dissipate back to the other 40 collectors around the world, and the likelihood of them being brought together again in the future is very slim."
